Learn how to master essential embroidery stitches so you can embark on your creative journey.

With your suite of foundation stitches, you will be on your way to confidently creating with just a needle and thread.

Embroidery helps keep your fine motor skills sharp, your mind focused and builds your patience. It’s meditative and therapeutic, and can help improve your mental and emotional health.

Make a hand-stitched treasure for yourself or for those you love. Master this session then go forth and stitch!

 

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

In this workshop you will learn how to:

  • thread a needle
  • separate embroidery cottons (floss)
  • begin and end your work
  • stitch 6 essential embroidery stitches: running stitch, whipped stitch, back stitch, stem stitch, chain stitch and French knots
  • create a mini linen pincushion using the stitches learnt in the workshop.

Whether you’re a beginner to stitching or already know your way around a needle, our CWA handicraft award winner, Sil, will take you through all the steps and tips to get you on your stitching way.

 

*Please note, this workshop includes refreshments which include gluten flours, dairy, nuts, egg and other potential allergens.

Come along to our Makers Morning for a great couple of hours over a scrummy morning tea bringing along whatever you’re working on at the time. If you need a hand sorting out a stitching issue or simply want to refresh your stitching memory, our expert Makers will be on hand to assist. Sit, relax and chat while you stitch, embroider, knit, crochet, whatever!

Workshop bookings are non-refundable but you’re welcome to send someone in your place if you can’t attend.

The ticket is also non-transferable after the workshop has been held in case you forgot to come or were unable to attend.

ABOUT YOUR TEACHER, SILVANA GRIFFIN

Sil is an avid embroiderer, jam maker and home baker and has been ever since having learnt ‘how-tos’ from both her mum and primary school eons ago!

Former President of the Country Women’s Association Sydney City Branch (CWA), she has also been awarded numerous blue ribbons across branch, group and State levels over the last 10 years in embroidery, baking and preserving.

Loving to help others discover their own creative abilities, encouraging them to stretch their skills or simply to just have a go, Sil believes everyone needs time-out, slowly making and doing with their hands – without judgement!

Keen to share her skills, Sil will help demystify this revered age-old skill, answer your questions and set you on your way to embroidering with confidence.
